Current projects
I am a research associate at the Centre for Urban and Community Research at Goldsmiths College and I have been commissioned by the Rothschild Foundation to conduct two research projects: working on two projects funding by the Rothschild Foundation: 'A Mapping Study of Efforts to Combat Antisemitism, Racism and Xenophobia at the Local, Communal and Grassroots Levels in Europe' (completed in May 2007) and 'From Security to Insecurity?: Jewish Communal Leadership in Changing Times' (with Ben Gidley). I work as an associate lecturer for the Open University on the courses ‘An Introduction to the Social Sciences: Understanding Social Change’. and ‘Research Methods Dissertation in the Social Sciences’. I work as a freelance research consultant within the British Jewish community, clients have included Alif-Aleph UK, UJIA and the Board of Deputies of British Jews.. I am the convenor of the project New Jewish Thought. My book ‘Extreme Metal: Music and Culture on the Edge’ was published by Berg in December 2006. I also write and publish articles and reviews on a variety of topics. I conduct seminars, lectures and education sessions on a variety of topics within the Jewish community. Organizations include Jewish Book Week, Jewdas, The London Jewish Cultural Centre and Limmud. I am on the organizing committee developing a pan-European research project on religion and popular music. I am a member of the steering committee of the National ME Observatory.
